Warnings Over Hiring Illegal Expat Workers Issued by Ministry of Manpower

In an effort to curb the curse, Oman’s Manpower Ministry wants everyone in the country to stop hiring illegal workers.

Regular 24/7 squads are arresting tens of thousands of illegal workers as the ministry revealed in a series of statements posted online, while confirming that education is the key to stamp out the problem.

Calling on everyone in Oman to help battle the problem, the ministry announced that the practice will continue as long as citizens and residents are willing to hire undocumented workers. Many slip through the net despite the help from the new electronic registration system.

For violating the labour system,the number of workers who are arrested exceeds 20,000 cases every year, stated by the ministry. The workers work for proxy ownership of business in most absconding worker cases as found in the ones those are arrested.

For curbing this illegal practice, new procedures has been adopted by the ministry.

For sponsors who free absconding workers, services for two years will be ceased by the ministry. Finally, the ministry added that the deporting tickets of the absconding workers shall cover their new employers.
