Royal Opera House

The Royal Opera House, which finished construction in 2011, is where to go in Muscat if you are looking for one of the most beautiful places in Muscat.

Opened in 2011 the building is beautiful inside and out, and a prime example of modern Omani architecture.

It hosts a wide range of events from classic music to ballet, and was built thanks to the sultan's passion for the arts.

Huge names like Placido Domingo and Andrea Bocelli have all taken to the stage, which celebrates international and Omani talents alike.

This kind of set-up is frankly a rare thing in this part of the world, and it's even worth a tour if you can't get hold of tickets.

Al Alam Palace

Al Alam Palace is the ceremonial palace of His Majesty the Sultan. The palace is located in the heart of the Old Muscat, it is surrounded by the Al Jalali and Al Mirani forts and will soon be facing the upcoming National Museum of Oman. Former Sultan’s used to live in a house called Bait Al Alam which was demolished in the early 70s to build this new Palace in its place to be the official residence of the Sultan of Oman.
