7 Foods To Eat That Have Almost No Calories

In the everyday battle to maintain your weight, it's important to not just run like a maniac on the treadmill but also eat right.

That all begins by adding the right foods to your diet which aren't heavy on calories, provide your body with nutrients and will keep you full.

Ticking off all those three boxes could be these foods. They are often termed as zero calorie or negative calorie foods because they are low in calories and your body requires more energy to consume them, which cancels them out in a way.

So weight watchers, start by adding these seven foods to your meals or snack on them today - but remember to always consult a doctor or trained nutritionist before starting a diet.

1. Cabbage

The humble cabbage has a calorie count of 25 calories per 100 grams, according to Life Hack. Along with the fact that it's on the lower end of the calorie counter, it is also easily available at any vegetable vendor around the corner. You won't need to duck into a fancy specialty store for this one. Cabbage is an incredibly versatile vegetable that can be tossed into a salad or shredded into a soup for a quick dinner.

2. Watermelon

Summer time means watermelon season for many. The good news is, help yourself to two or even three servings of it because watermelon has a mere 30 calories per 100 grams. No one needs any incentive to take a slice of watermelon, it is delicious even when eaten plain and messily. Thanks to its almost 92 percent water content, it is perfect to keep you hydrated in summer.

3. Celery

While many only know celery as the stalk used as a stirrer in a Bloody Mary cocktail, the vegetable has more uses than just that. It comes in at just 16 calories per 100 grams, which might make it your new favourite vegetable. Enough reason to add celery leaves and stalks to your soups and salads this season, we think.

4. Tomato

It is one of those rare vegetables that tastes great even raw and uncooked. So it's a bonus that tomatoes have a count of only 18 calories per 100 grams, according to WebMD. Along with being weight watcher friendly, tomatoes are also natural sources of lycopene which are excellent to keep cancer and heart disease at bay.

5. Cantaloupe

Of course the sister to the watermelon had to feature here. Also known as muskmelon, the cantaloupe contains 34 calories per 100 grams. It is also high in water content and packed with Vitamin C, potassium and folate. Now get scooping and add to your next meal already.

6. Cucumber

The next time you wonder what to munch on when watching your weight, blindly trust cucumber. You can find it anywhere (it is even sold cut with masala sprinkled), has one of the highest water content in vegetables and just 16 calories per 100 grams.

7. Papaya

If papaya has never featured on your list of favourite fruits before, it probably will now. It contains just 37 calories per 100 grams. Papaya is usually available throughout the year and is a rich source of antioxidants, Vitamin B and fiber. Enough reason to make it your next snack.
