Things to do this weekend in Qatar (July 4-6, 2019)

From meet and greets with superhero characters at malls to movie screenings to gaming festivals, a lot is happening in Doha over the weekend and in the coming few weeks of summer. We have compiled a list of events happening in and around Doha for you and your loved ones to enjoy.

DFI Cinema Presents: Indian Cinema – Summer Hits
To celebrate the ‘Qatar-India 2019 Year of Culture’, Doha Film Institute in partnership with Qatar Museums and the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, will be showcasing a number of exciting movies.
The movies to be screened are Village Rockstars, Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota and Andhadun.
The ticket price for the movie screening is QR 25.

Spiderman Meet and Greet
Fans of all ages will get to meet and greet the Spiderman character from the movie in malls across Doha. The respective malls are Hyatt Plaza, Mirqab Mall, The Mall, Mall of Qatar, Tawar Mall, Landmark Mall,  Doha Festival City, Gulf Mall, Lagoona Mall and Al Khor Mall.

Stars Wars Meet and Greet
Fans will get to meet and greet the Star Wars characters in malls across Doha. The respective malls are Doha Festival City, Landmark Mall, Tawar Mall, Al Khor Mall, Lagoona Mall, Gulf Mall, Mall of Qatar, The Mall and Hyatt Plaza.
When: July 4 – 6 (2:30pm - 10pm)

The Astronaut
Katara Cultural Village will be screening the movie “The Astronaut” in Arabic (6pm) and English (7pm) at the Planetarium.
Registration will be done at the entrance of planetarium, movie gooers are advised to arrive 30 mins early as the seats will be provided on first come first serve basis.

Summer Entertainment City 2019
The Virtual Reality and Gaming zone has some of the world’s most advanced VR simulators, gaming stations and themed gaming areas for various ages spread on a 6,000sqm area, which is more than seven times bigger than last year.
They also have retro-gaming area for people 35 years old and above as well who can actually connect with games like Pac-Man, Atari and Sega. This year’s SEC hosts the world’ biggest Pac-Man and Space Invaders, which is a first in Qatar, in addition to Atari Sega and Nintendo among others.
The main areas include amusement rides, skills games with prizes, trampoline park, a kids driving school setup, Qatar’s first InflataPark, the world’s largest bounce castle, a skate park, synthetic ice skating, Spider Climbing tower.
Visitors can choose from cuisines offered by around 47 outlets, 70 percent of which are local, located in a food court. Visitors can also watch live performances by international artistes.
Ticket prices range from QR15 QR entry to the SEC, or visitors can purchase Gold Pass for QR165, Gaming Pass for QR165, Season Pass for QR999 or Season Gaming Pass for QR1,250.

Art transcends cultural boundaries: Indian artist
Indian artist Surabhi Gaikwad’s artwork is being presented at Katara, in line with the Qatar India 2019 Year of Culture
In her works, the contemporary figurative painter depicts women of strength dressed in flamboyant fashionable costumes and accessories.
Works by Gaikwad have been featured in many exhibitions in India, Sri Lanka and Qatar, among others and are part of private collections in India, the US, Germany, Qatar and the UK.

Summer workshops in Katara
Katara is hosting an array of workshops during July as part of its summer programme.
The “Introduction to over-sized knitting” workshop will be held from July 7-8 at Katara Art Studios in building 19.
 “Brush Calligraphy Workshop” by artist Noor Shifa - will be organised on July 6 in building 19 for young people aged 13 and above.
 “Paper Die Cut – Kirigami” by artist Mariam Al Obeidy will run from July 13-14, 5-8pm for both genders from age 15 and above.
 ‘An Introduction to weaving’ by artist Vandana Gupta will run from July 22-24, explaining to participants about the field of weaving and use of textiles.

JEEM TV show at Doha Festival City
Jeem TV (a Bein channel) will be hosting a Live interactive kids gaming show ‘Jeem Jawab’

Toy Story characters at Doha Festival City
Doha Festival City will be home to a Disney activation with exciting games and photos with movie characters.
Children aged 4 and up can enjoy a Toy Story 4 themed activity area with interactive games designed by Disney.
In addition to a 3-D photo with the full cast of characters, children can play games on interactive digital screens, do number of art and craft activities and test their Toy Story knowledge with quizzes.

Gaming Festival at Virtuocity
Doha Festival City is holding a gaming festival every weekend for kids and teenagers. Kids can win goodie bags every weekend till August 2. Different games will be played each weekend like Super Smash Bro Ultimate Tournament,  FIFA 19 Tournament,  CSGO, Overwatch, etc. Winners of the gaming festival will win from the ppol prize of QR60,000.
