10. Drive Through Wadi Tanuf and its Ruins

Wadi Tanuf offers a brilliant mix of recent history and natural beauty. The site lies conveniently midway between the cities of Nizwa and Bahla. At the very mouth of the wadi sit the haunting ruins of old Tanuf. British military forces bombed this specific village during the Jebel Akhdar War. This tragic event occurred during intense tribal conflicts in the late 1950s. The crumbling, un-restored mudbrick walls provide a stark visual historical reminder. Today, the quiet ruins make a fantastic subject for highly evocative photography.
