Your Blood Type Can Say A Lot About Your Health

Your Blood Type Can Say A Lot About Your Health

There are 4 blood groups in total (A, B, AB, 0), each one with its own characteristics. Knowing your blood group is highly important so you can receive the proper blood from donors in cases of injuries, but it turns out that each blood group can also say a lot about our overall health. Here’s how the blood groups affect our health:

Memory problems

Groups at risk: AB

People with the AB blood type are more prone to memory problems than others. According to a study, 82% of the participants with the AB blood type experienced language, focus and memory problems when compared to the other groups. Experts believe that this occurs due to the coagulation factor VIII, a clotting protein that reduces the blood flow to the brain. According to Dr. Mary Kushman, this blood type has a significantly higher risk of cognitive impairment.

Pancreatic cancer

Groups at risk: non-0

According to a research conducted at Yale University, people with blood type 0 are at a higher risk of pancreatic cancer. The study was focused on intestinal bacterial infections and found out that people with the A, B and AB blood types who had the H. Pylori bacterium in their system are more susceptible to pancreatic cancer as the A and B antigens help the bacteria thrive.

Heart disease

Groups at risk: AB

According to a 2012 study, people with the AB blood type are more prone to heart disease than others. Specifically, they had a 23% higher chance of developing cardiovascular diseases than those with the 0 blood type. According to Dr. Qi, the lead researcher, we can’t change our blood type, but these findings may help doctors understand which groups of people are more prone to heart disease in the future.

Stress

Groups at risk: A

Certain blood types usually go hand to hand with certain levels of hormones in the blood, and those with blood type A usually have the highest amount of stress hormones in their body. This is why experts suggest doing yoga and other relaxation techniques if you fall into this group.

Harmful gut bacteria

The blood antigens that determine your blood type can be found anywhere in the body including the gut. The bacteria in the gut feed on these antigens which dictate which bacteria thrive and which are eliminated. According to a study, people with blood type B have 50 000 more beneficial bacteria in their gut compared to the other groups.

Exercise demands

The antigens in your cells can determine the amount of hormones released in your blood. People with blood types A and B respond to yoga better than a hard workout, while those with blood type AB will benefit more from all-round exercises. People with blood type 0 are unable to clean stress hormones from their blood quickly, which means that they’ll experience the effects of stress worse than others.
