Isis Suspect, Karen Aizha Hamidon, Wanted by India Arrested in Philippines

In perhaps a big fillip to Indian investigators probing cases related to the terror group ISIS, Philippine security forces have arrested a 36-year-old Filipino woman of Indian origin, Karen Aizha Hamidon, suspected of recruiting, via social media, fighters from around the world for the terror group.

Hamidon was arrested by National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) of the Philippines two days ago from Manila, The Times of India reported.
The National Investigation Agency has requested Philippines to allow them to question Hamidon, news agency ANI reported.

Last year, the NIA had sent a letter rogatory, that is a judicial request, to Philippines regarding Karen Aizha Hamidon's questioning.
Now, a fresh request has been made on her arrest, the news agency reported.

In 2016, Hamidon, who is the widow of Philippines-based terrorist leader Mohammad Jafaar Maquid, came under the radar of international agencies, after Indian agencies found out the used several social media platforms, including Facebook, WhatsApp and Telegram to recruit 'foreign fighters' from India and other countries.

Since then, investigation agencies of various countries had been looking for her.

As per a Times of India report, Mohammad Sirajuddin, an Indian ISIS operative who was arrested from Jaipur and Mohammad Naseer, an engineer from Tamil Nadu, who was deported from Sudan, had claimed that Karen had influenced them to join the terror group
