Japan Plans to Release More Emergency Oil Reserves
Japan plans to release more emergency oil reserves starting in early May. The government will release an amount equaling 20 days of national consumption.
Officials designed this crucial second step to counter global supply uncertainty.
Promoting Energy Market Stability
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi addressed this new energy plan today. She stated the government executed a similar oil release last month.
Leaders want to promote long-term energy market stability during these uncertain times.
Takaichi confirmed her government actively seeks new alternative oil import routes. They plan to diversify supply sources and enhance national energy security.
Tracking Current National Stockpiles
Japan previously released a massive amount of oil last March. That initial emergency release equaled about 50 days of national oil consumption.
The Japanese Agency for Natural Resources and Energy published new data recently. Japan currently holds enough total oil reserves to cover 230 days.
The government directly controls 143 days of these emergency stockpiles. Private companies hold the remaining oil supply for the nation.
