Mexico hurricane warning

Mexico Braces For Approaching Hurricanes As Severe Weather Threatens Coast

Multiple Storm Systems Develop Rapidly

Mexican authorities officially declared a state of alert today. They anticipate severe effects from three different storm systems moving nearby. Two storms approach from the Pacific Ocean, while one threatens the Gulf. Authorities expect highly unfavorable weather conditions during the coming days. The storms will heavily impact a number of vulnerable coastal states. Fabian Vasquez Romagna coordinates the National Meteorological Service in Mexico. He identified Tropical Storm Isaias developing rapidly in the Gulf of Mexico. A separate tropical depression is forming south of the Oaxaca state coast.

Tracking Hurricane Rachel

He also warned about Hurricane Rachel, located 1,000 kilometers from the coast. Experts predict Rachel may approach the mainland again at the end of the week. The tropical depression near Oaxaca remains unorganized but could intensify quickly. It may turn into a dangerous Category 1 hurricane by tomorrow. Meteorologists expect winds reaching 120 kilometers per hour with much stronger gusts. The depression will continue its aggressive approach toward the Pacific coast. By Sunday morning, it will sit off the coast near Puerto Vallarta. It may intensify into a massive Category 2 hurricane before moving inland.

Preparing For Coastal Impacts

Authorities warned that Colima, Jalisco, Nayarit, and Sinaloa face direct storm impacts. These states could experience hurricane-force winds exceeding 120 kilometers per hour. Last week, Hurricane Rachel intensified to a Category 3 storm in the Pacific. Mexico expects up to 21 named storms to form this hurricane season.
