In Oman about 1500 Government Staff left jobs in the first half this year

As revealed by a government report, almost half of all government employees who resigned in the first half of 2017 were under the age of 50.

The two main reasons for people leaving government jobs before statutory retirement age are appeared to be dependent on factors like spending more time with family and starting new businesses.

As stated by the report, many people are now leaving government service before 60 which was once viewed by many as a job for life. Between January and June 2017, a total of 1,477 employees left their government jobs, costing the government around OMR 60 million according to data released by the Civil Service Employees Pension Fund. The data shows that out of the 1,102 who had resigned, the  total was made up of 691 men and 411 women which accounts for 75 per cent.

Under the age bracket of 40 to 50 years,  47 per cent were those who resigned who had taken voluntary retirement. The highest of any month in the given period was witnessed by the resignation of 256 people in January.

Pensions for retired people vary from OMR 785 to OMR 886 and the official retirement age in the government sector is 60 years.

Right from privatisation of public sector industries, death in the family and ill health ranged the reasons for retirement. the highest in the country was accounted in the Muscat Province with 21 per cent retirees. With 15 per cent of the retirees, second came the Al Dakhiliya Province.

Actually compared to previous years, the number of people who resigned from government services this year is down.

Finally, also there are reasons be cited for early retirement like an unfavourable work environment,  stress, ill health and the job not meeting the employee’s aspirations.
