India Condemns Attacks on Commercial Vessels Near Oman Coast
Drone Strikes Hit Tankers
India strongly condemned recent attacks on two commercial vessels operating in the Middle East. A drone struck the MT Petro Dolphin near Sohar Anchorage. This incident occurred off the coast of Oman on October 11. Nine Indian seafarers survived the attack. However, two Indian crew members currently remain missing.
A separate attack targeted the MT Valthera tanker. An unidentified projectile hit this Marshall Islands-flagged vessel. The strike triggered a large fire onboard the ship. Fortunately, all 11 Indian crew members survived this second incident unharmed.
Oman Coast Guard Leads Rescue
Search and rescue operations are actively continuing off the Omani coast. The local Coast Guard leads these vital recovery efforts today. They want to locate the two missing Indian nationals quickly. The Forward Seamen's Union identified the missing men. Their names are Bir Bahadur Yadav and Amit Singh.
The Indian Embassy in Muscat provides crucial support for this operation. Officials coordinate directly with Omani authorities and ship management companies. The embassy actively monitors the situation and maintains continuous contact. They want to ensure the safety of all affected maritime personnel. The union also requested urgent support for the grieving families.
Diplomatic Calls for De-escalation
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs issued a strong official statement. The ministry described these repeated shipping attacks as deeply concerning. Officials warned that these strikes aggravate a highly volatile regional security situation. The Indian government consistently prioritizes the safety of its citizens abroad.
India urgently calls for an immediate end to these strikes. Officials demand the protection of commercial ships and civilian infrastructure. The ministry stressed that international law protects freedom of navigation. Leaders believe dialogue and diplomacy must resolve the ongoing regional conflict.
Protecting Vital Global Waterways
These recent events follow another drone strike earlier this month. An attack targeted the MT Gem No. 2 at Sharjah Anchorage. All 22 Indian sailors aboard that vessel survived safely. These repeated incidents raise serious concerns regarding regional maritime security.
The Strait of Hormuz represents a critical global waterway. It connects the Persian Gulf directly with the Gulf of Oman. This passage handles massive amounts of international energy shipments daily. Disruptions here can severely affect global oil supplies and transportation costs.
Enhancing Maritime Safety Protocols
Indian authorities continue monitoring the volatile security situation closely. The Directorate General of Shipping issued new safety advisories recently. These warnings alert Indian seafarers operating in the Persian Gulf. The government urges heightened vigilance and better reporting procedures.
India also supports broader international efforts regarding maritime security. The country recently launched a new international safety initiative. This group focuses on protecting commercial shipping and global seafarers. Right now, authorities remain completely focused on the search operations in Oman.
