Oman Achieves Major Success with First Locally Collected Cell Therapy

The National Center for Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation achieved a major medical milestone today. Doctors successfully performed the first CAR-T cell therapy procedure.

Medical teams fully assembled and prepared this treatment inside national laboratories. This qualitative medical achievement reflects the rapid development of local cancer treatments.

Understanding T-Cell Therapy

T-cell therapy represents one of the latest advanced treatments for blood cancers. Doctors genetically modify the immune cells of the patient.

This modification enables the immune cells to recognize and target cancer cells precisely. Doctors collect these immune cells using an advanced apheresis process.

They modify the cells in specialized laboratories before reinjecting them into the patient.

A Strategic Step for Local Medicine

Dr Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al-Nabhani praised this important milestone today. He serves as an Assistant Professor at Sultan Qaboos University.

He called the successful implementation a reflection of the advanced Omani medical system. This success opens broader horizons for applying advanced treatment technologies locally.

Patients can now benefit from the latest medical practices without traveling abroad.

Empowering National Medical Talent

Dr Khalil bin Saleh Al-Farsi heads the Hematology Department at the Center. He explained that this success represents a strategic step toward localizing advanced treatments.

It confirms the incredible efficiency of national medical capabilities. The University Medical City continuously strengthens partnerships with national institutions to empower local talent.
