Oman Deploys Artificial Intelligence to Revolutionize Commercial Fish Farming

Automating Aquaculture

The Sultanate is aggressively pushing digital transformation into its vital agricultural sectors. The Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources just signed a massive cooperation agreement with Sultan Qaboos University today. They are officially launching an applied research project to deploy advanced artificial intelligence and underwater imaging directly into commercial fish farms. The 18-month project aims to drastically improve production efficiency and national food security.

Slashing Operating Costs

Feeding currently consumes between 50 and 70 percent of total operating costs for local fish farmers. This new smart system uses AI models to automatically estimate fish weights and biomass without physical contact. By aggressively analyzing feeding behaviour and linking these accurate results directly to an automated feeding system, the government aims to drastically reduce feed waste. Developing an integrated, cloud-based monitoring dashboard will massively improve the economic viability of national aquaculture projects.
