Global Gold Prices Decline as US Interest Rate Hike Looms

Rising inflation in the US and Europe puts pressure on precious metal markets this week

Gold prices dropped during early Asian trading on October 30, 2026. This decline followed a one percent fall in the previous trading session. High inflation in the United States continues to affect the global market. Many economists now expect another US interest rate hike very soon. This expectation negatively impacts the value of precious metals everywhere. Spot gold recently fell by 0.4 percent to $4,006.06 an ounce. Meanwhile, US gold futures for December dropped 0.3 percent to $4,018.50. Gold is currently heading for very modest weekly gains. However, the metal is on track for a second consecutive monthly loss. US inflation accelerated in September due to higher gasoline and goods costs. This trend strongly supports the likelihood of a December rate hike. The CME FedWatch tool shows traders see a 75 percent chance of this increase. The European Central Bank also left interest rates unchanged this past Thursday. However, European officials clearly hinted at another hike coming in December. They warned about rising inflation risks linked to high energy costs. Today, new data showed Japan's annual core inflation rate exceeded its target. It far surpassed the central bank's two percent goal for October. This highlights rising price pressures and supports tighter monetary policies worldwide. Other precious metals also experienced notable declines today. Silver fell one percent to $51.87 an ounce in spot trading. Platinum held steady at $1,488, while palladium dropped to $1,000.75. All three of these metals face both weekly and monthly market losses.
