Gold Prices Surge as Panicking Investors Await Crucial US Jobs Data
A Safe Haven Rally
Investors are retreating to safe havens as uncertainty grips the global financial sector. Gold prices recorded a noticeable increase at the start of Asian trading today, hitting exactly $4,103.55 an ounce in spot trading. US futures also settled higher at $4,112.80. The precious metal is currently on track to secure a massive 5.9 percent weekly gain. Traders are desperately waiting for the upcoming US non-farm payrolls report to dictate the Federal Reserve's next monetary move.
Bracing for Interest Rate Hikes
The US economy is sending out heavily mixed signals. US jobless claims just plummeted to a 57-year low, instantly pushing market expectations to a 71 percent probability that the Federal Reserve will violently raise interest rates this December. Meanwhile, the Bank of England already pulled the trigger, raising interest rates for the first time in over three years. Goldman Sachs took a brutal view on the metal's future, actively lowering its 2026 gold forecast to $4,150 an ounce. Other metals are following the rally, with silver rising 0.5 percent to $52.01.
