Cutting-Edge Floating Desalination Plants Secure Water Supply in Musandam

An Innovative Maritime Solution

Nama Water Services just pulled off a massive infrastructural feat in the Musandam Governorate. They successfully deployed a cutting-edge floating desalination plant project to tackle tough geographical challenges. This initiative is officially the first of its kind in the entire Arab world. The project utilizes four specialized vessels equipped with advanced reverse osmosis technology to pump fresh drinking water to over 70 coastal villages and islands. Each vessel boasts a solid production capacity of 200 cubic meters per day, operating efficiently between Khasab and Dibba.

Overcoming Rugged Terrain

Providing reliable utilities in areas with difficult terrain requires serious operational flexibility. Engineer Ibrahim bin Ahmed Al-Shehhi confirmed that these mobile plants offer immediate response capabilities to any sudden supply challenges. Nama Water Services proactively built storage reservoirs in these remote maritime villages beforehand. They connected these reservoirs directly to local water networks and household meters to ensure residents receive water even when they are away from home. Active construction continues in places like Ghub Ali to expand the grid further.

Protecting the Marine Environment

Ship supervisor Majid bin Ahmed Al Shehhi explained the brilliant technology powering these vessels. They pull seawater through pre-screens, filter it thoroughly, and desalinate it before pumping it into the coastal tanks. The onboard systems store over 7,500 gallons and slash energy consumption by up to 60 percent compared to older methods. Crews also apply incredibly strict operational procedures to safely discharge returned water without harming the delicate marine ecosystem. This project absolutely guarantees long-term water security for the isolated northern communities.
