South Al Batinah Prepares for Massive Tourist Influx This Winter Season

Fresh Water Draws the Crowds

The districts across South Al Batinah Governorate are bracing for an incredibly busy winter season. Heavy rains recently swept through the region, filling the beautiful wadis, springs, and mountain pools with fresh flowing water. Dr. Al-Mu'tasim bin Nasser Al-Hilali, the local Heritage and Tourism Director, expects an absolutely exceptional tourist turnout this year. The drop in temperatures combined with lush green landscapes creates the perfect outdoor setting. To capitalize on this, the Rustaq Winter Festival 2026 recently kicked off at the historic castle to entertain families and tourists.

Exploring Historic Forts

Visitors seeking deep cultural experiences will find plenty to explore here. The governorate is famous for its towering historical structures, including Nakhal Castle, Al Hazm Fort, and Barka Fort. You can also walk through the fascinating Bait Al Ghasham Museum in Wadi Al Ma’awil or visit Falaj Al Maysar, which proudly sits on the world heritage list. The Sheikh’s Chamber Walkway offers a brilliant mix of agricultural paths and local heritage projects ending right at the museum doors.

Mountain Trails and Coastal Beaches

Nature lovers have endless options to choose from this winter. The stunning agricultural terraces of Baldsayt village in Wadi Bani Awf and the easily accessible waterfalls of Wadi Al-Hawqayn remain massive crowd favorites. Adventure seekers can tackle the rugged trails of Wadi Bani Kharous or Wadi Mistal. If you prefer the ocean, Barka and Al Musannah offer beautiful coastal strips like Al Sawadi and Shamisa beaches. South Al Batinah truly delivers a complete tourism package.
