Oman Transforms Al Buraimi into a Massive Sustainable Tourism Hub
Reviving Heritage Sites
The Heritage and Tourism Department is aggressively developing Al Buraimi Governorate into a premium tourist destination. Planners are heavily focusing on the Al Buraimi Oasis project and physically linking the historic Al Khandaq and Al Hilla forts. Authorities are also busy rehabilitating the traditional aflaj irrigation systems and surrounding environmental attractions. Talal bin Khalfan Al-Shuaibi, the department director, stated these strategic moves align perfectly with Oman Vision 2040. The government desperately wants to attract serious investments, speed up digital transformation, and boost competitive marketing for the region.
Expanding Hospitality Options
Fresh tourist facilities are popping up rapidly to support the incoming influx of visitors. Developers are currently wrapping up a new one-star hotel in Al Sunaynah costing roughly 7 Lakh Omani Rials, with 75 percent of the construction already done. A new green lodge in Al Buraimi is also 65 percent complete, costing around 50,000 Omani Rials. The governorate currently boasts exactly 46 registered hotel establishments, offering a combined total of 925 rooms. These include luxury camps, green lodges, and hotel apartments designed to meet every budget.
Generating Solid Revenue
The numbers speak for themselves. During 2025, over 1.38 Lakh guests visited the governorate, generating revenues exceeding 28,500 Omani Rials. From January to July 2026, the region saw 9,920 guests bring in over 24,730 Omani Rials. The Ministry aims to solidify this growth by strongly supporting local SMEs and creating a highly attractive investment environment. Sustainable tourism remains the ultimate long-term goal here.
