Oman Climbs Seven Spots in 2026 World Press Freedom Index
Oman advanced seven places in the 2026 World Press Freedom Index. Reporters Without Borders issued this important global report today.
Oman now ranks 127th globally on this major international list. The country previously ranked 134th back in 2025.
A Strong Legal Framework for Media
The Basic Law of the State guarantees freedom of opinion. Citizens enjoy expression as a fundamental and protected legal right.
Everyone must simply respect public order and core societal values. This legal framework creates a highly balanced local media environment.
It allows citizens to exchange opinions and fresh ideas freely. The framework strongly supports the responsible professional mission of the press.
This approach consolidates vital transparency and community participation principles perfectly.
Modernizing Journalistic Regulations
Oman makes continuous, tangible efforts to enhance its local media environment. The government recently issued the brand new Media Law.
Officials also introduced modern executive regulations governing daily journalistic work. These new laws modernize legislative frameworks for the entire media sector.
They support freedom of expression and regulate professional practice efficiently. The laws provide a clear, safe legal environment for local journalists.
The Press Freedom Index measures media freedom across 180 different countries. Researchers evaluate media pluralism, independence, and the physical safety of journalists.
