Oman Reports Massive 6.5 Billion Riyal Trade Balance Surplus for 2026

Export Values Skyrocket

The Sultanate of Oman crushed economic expectations by the end of August 2026. The national trade balance recorded a massive surplus of 6.5 billion Omani riyals. This number dwarfs the 3.9 billion riyal surplus from the same period in 2025. Preliminary statistics from the National Centre for Statistics and Information confirm this boom. The total value of Omani merchandise exports easily exceeded 18.3 billion riyals. This represents a staggering 19.7 percent increase compared to the previous year. Merchandise imports also rose slowly by 4.4 percent to reach 11.9 billion riyals.

Oil and Gas Dominate Sales

The global market desperately needed energy, and Oman happily delivered it. The value of oil and gas exports jumped a massive 23.9 percent. These crucial energy exports hit 12.1 billion riyals by late August 2026. Non-oil merchandise exports also performed well, reaching 4.9 billion riyals total. This marks a solid 10.5 percent increase over the previous year. Profitable re-exports also increased by 19.7 percent to hit 1.3 billion riyals.

Key Trading Partners Emerge

The United Arab Emirates aggressively purchased Omani non-oil exports this year. They topped the buyer list with a massive 1.6 billion riyals. Saudi Arabia spent 478 million riyals, while India spent 445 million riyals. The United States bought 327 million riyals worth of Omani goods. China lagged behind, purchasing only 198 million riyals in non-oil exports. Iran completely dominated the re-export market with 342 million riyals. The UAE also remained the absolute top source for Omani merchandise imports. Oman imported 3.3 billion riyals worth of goods directly from the UAE.
