Oman’s 20 Mosques: A Journey Through Sacred Architecture
2. Mohammed Al Ameen Mosque, Muscat
Locals often call this beautiful building the Bahwan Mosque. It sits high on a prominent hill overlooking the bustling capital city. The pristine white marble shines brilliantly in the hot midday sun. It offers a spectacular visual anchor for the entire local neighborhood.
Architectural Wonders
The prominent Bahwan family funded this massive project to serve the community. They wanted to create a highly prominent, beautiful place of daily worship. Striking blue lights illuminate the large golden domes perfectly at night. Builders used pure white Italian marble for all the smooth exterior walls.
The Traveler Experience
Visitors love photographing the illuminated domes from the busy highway below. The intricate hand-carved interior stonework amazes everyone who steps through the doors. The quiet atmosphere provides amazing relief from the noisy city traffic outside.
