Mineral Production in Al Buraimi Governorate Set to Exceed 5.5 Million Tons During 2025

A Steady Increase in the Mining Sector

The mining sector in Al Buraimi Governorate is witnessing a steady production surge. Production will exceed 5.5 million tons during the year 2025. This growth strengthens the governorate's position as a promising logistics and mining hub. The expansion aligns perfectly with the economic diversification objectives of Oman Vision 2040. Engineer Salem bin Khamis Al-Sudairi detailed the operations to the Oman News Agency. The governorate currently includes 21 licensed and active quarries and crushers. These facilities operate under strict government supervision.

Building Materials Dominate the Extraction Output

The building materials sector led production with a total exceeding 4.67 million tons. Limestone followed with an output of more than 859 thousand tons. The region also produced approximately 33.8 thousand tons of valuable chrome ore. Plastic clay, marble, and gypsum rounded out the diverse mineral extraction profile. Al-Sudairi pointed out the logistical advantages enjoyed by the governorate. Its proximity to border crossings secures the supply of materials for vital projects. This location reduces transportation costs significantly.

Supporting National Infrastructure Projects

These materials support the railway project between Oman and the UAE. They also supply internal road projects and the Gulf electrical interconnection project. Two new mining concession areas in the governorate are currently undergoing exploration. A transparent bidding system allows fair competition for companies to invest in metallic minerals. The ministry conducted 96 rigorous inspection visits to verify technical requirements during 2025. Authorities mandate strict environmental commitment and site rehabilitation from all operating companies. Protecting the landscape remains a top priority.

Empowering the Local Community

The ministry directs mining investments towards supporting the local community actively. They encourage the localization of technical and administrative jobs in operating companies. The sector supports small and medium enterprises by assigning transportation and maintenance services. The industry also funds community initiatives in the states where mining sites reside. The government promotes a move towards smart monitoring and digital transformation. This ensures the long-term sustainability of the nation's valuable mining resources. It creates a balanced approach to economic development.
