Oman’s 20 Mosques: A Journey Through Sacred Architecture
10. Said Bin Taimur Mosque, Muscat
This beautiful building sits prominently in the bustling Al Khuwair commercial district. Several cascading domes surround the central, highly decorated main prayer hall. It offers a highly unique visual contrast to other local Omani mosques. You will immediately think of famous historical Turkish sites upon seeing it.
Architectural Wonders
Sultan Qaboos built this remarkable structure to honor his late father. He wanted a highly unique architectural tribute for Sultan Said bin Taimur. It replicates classic Ottoman architecture flawlessly right here in the Arabian Gulf. Two very slender minarets flank the main central building incredibly beautifully.
The Traveler Experience
The interior boasts stunning, incredibly colorful stained glass windows catching the sun. Authentic, hand-painted Iznik tiles line the interior walls from top to bottom. The stark visual contrast with the modern surrounding offices feels highly surreal.
